Proposal

Pavlova productions present a whole new perspective on the genre of fantasy. 'Shadow' is a magical tale of abduction into a dystopian darkness that nobody knew existed. The premise of the film is a novel written by Molly Turner; the story of eternal friendship sees two girls torn apart by a kingdom of black mass. The film will feature narration and a sneaky glimpse into the year 2041. The production team is made of a student partnership who wish to create their own film. The film is most likely to be produced by the British Film Institute as it uses public funding and aims to encourage the growth of culture in Britain. The film is low budget, using nearby locations, low budget costumes and volunteer actors. The students acting as directors are reliable and committed; therefore the outcome of the film is guaranteed to be of a good standard.

Our target market is young adults ages 15-25. You can tell this because the two protagonists are aged seventeen and therefore the audience can easily related. The film carries a Toderov style narrative where everything is concluded and resolved at the end; however the focus in our task is on the first few minutes of the film. The first few minutes are crucial to the audience as they will make the decision to continue viewing the film within a tiny space of time. The Toderov narrative is used in many films and is appreciated by a mass audience, though this limits the ability to make a sequel.

The film will begin in medias res using Barthes' Enigma theory to establish a scene and immediately instigate a problem. This will encourage the audience to keep watching the film as they are thrown into the storyline straight away.

Overall the production will be of a good quality on a very tiny budget, which will encourage other young people to make their own films.
